Config Tuner

Load your client.cfg, tick the changes you want, download the tuned file.

About your machine

The rate it actually runs at, e.g. 144. Not sure? Check the refresh rate entry.
Sync ceiling
Not sure whether yours is on? The VRR entry is how to check.
GPU
? Above 4 cores the page takes core 0 out for Windows before it derives anything, and at 8 or more it leaves one further lane for everything else on the machine. If you pinned Rust with -cpu_affinity, type the number of physical cores in that mask instead — a mask already leaves core 0 out, so nothing is reserved twice.
Optional. Task Manager > Performance > CPU > Cores.
How far to go on visuals
Optional. Leave it and your visual settings are left alone.
Leave unticked if unsure. Launch options entry.

Load your client.cfg

Close Rust first — it rewrites client.cfg on exit.

Steam > right-click Rust > Manage > Browse local files > cfg folder.

Or paste the file contents
What about keys.cfg?
The keys.cfg sitting next to it is your keybinds. This tool never reads or writes it — that file has its own surface, the Bind Builder.

Putting it back

Four steps, and step 2 is your undo.

  1. Close Rust

  2. Move your current file to the Desktop

If your file extensions are hidden
Out of the cfg folder, not renamed in place: with hidden file extensions a rename to .bak often silently becomes .bak.cfg. The Desktop copy is your undo.
  3. Move the downloaded file in

If this is your second download
Into the cfg folder, and check its name is exactly client.cfg. A repeat download becomes client (1).cfg, which Rust ignores.
  4. Start Rust

To go back: delete the new file and move your Desktop copy in again.

Keep going

Your cfg is done. What is left is Windows-side, which no config file can reach.
